Safer Internet Day 2026 – Exploring AI Safely and Responsibly
Brookeborough PrimarySchool was proud to take part in Safer Internet Day on 10th February with this year’s focus centred on the safe and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The day began with a whole-school assembly led by the Digital Leaders and Mrs Gould. Together they explored what AI is, how it is increasingly part of everyday life, and—most importantly—how it can be used safely, responsibly and positively by children. The children from Mrs Gould’s class also took part in the assembly and showed the whole school the Digital Superhero’s they had created as part of their online lesson with Just2Easy.
Following the assembly, pupils took part in a range of classroom activities that reinforced key messages about staying safe online. These activities encouraged discussion, critical thinking and practical steps pupils can take to protect themselves and make good choices in the digital world.
The key message that every child received today was the importance of using a trusted adult when spending time online.
Brookeborough School is committed to building on this learning by harnessing the knowledge and skills our pupils have gained. Our aim is to continue working in partnership with parents to ensure our pupils remain safe even when online at home. As part of this commitment, the school is applying for a Digital Proficiency Safer Schools Award which recognises our whole-school approach to online safety and digital awareness.
We look forward to continuing our journey towards creating a safer, smarter digital environment for everyone in our school community.
