On Your Bikes: P6 & P7 Ride into Cycling Success!
We are delighted to share that our Cycling Proficiency programme is now underway!
Our Primary 6 and Primary 7 pupils have enthusiastically embarked on a 12-week course designed to build their confidence, skills and awareness when cycling. This important programme equips children with the knowledge they need to ride safely and responsibly, both in school and out in the community.
Throughout the course, pupils will develop a wide range of practical cycling skills. These include learning how to control and handle their bikes effectively, understanding road positioning, signalling clearly and becoming aware of potential hazards. They will also gain valuable experience in decision-making, risk assessment and sharing the road safely with others.
Beyond the physical skills, the programme promotes independence, responsibility and resilience. It encourages pupils to stay active, supports their wellbeing and helps them develop lifelong habits for safe and healthy travel.
In Week 1, the focus was on cycling safety. Pupils learned how to properly check their helmets to ensure a correct and secure fit, as well as how to inspect their bicycles to make sure they are safe to ride. This included checking brakes, tyres, and general equipment—an essential foundation for all the learning to come.
We look forward to seeing our pupils continue to grow in confidence and ability over the coming weeks!
